Immokalee, meaning “My Home,” is a hard-working, agricultural community in Southwest Florida, with over 40 percent of its population living below the poverty level. The area faces a severe housing crisis, with some families paying up to 70% of their income to reside in unsafe, overcrowded trailers lacking basic amenities.
To help address this crisis, PFCF is partnering with the Nuestra Señora de la Vivienda Community Foundation to help build Monarca, a neighborhood of 179 two-, three- and four-bedroom homes for rent to families with extremely low incomes. The neighborhood will include a community center, playground, lakeside walking path, and dedicated parking for resident commercial and work vehicles.
In addition to building houses, the Nuestra Señora de la Vivienda Community Foundation will seek to help families build a better life by providing wrap around services to the future residents of Monarca. The nonprofit will have a staff operating within Monarca, connecting residents to service providers and resources to help address their needs.
